Announcing DPX 4.8

Our big news this winter is the new version of Catalogic DPX 4.8 and that we have also addressed the Apache log4j critical vulnerability. First, please note that DPX does not use a log4j version with the remote code execution vulnerability. However, we decided out of an abundance of caution, to remove log4j from all supported versions of DPX to eliminate any future vulnerabilities from this library. For more information, please see How to Remove the log4j Library from DPX.

Now, on to our new DXP 4.8.0 release, which has enhancements for agentless backups for virtual environments, more cloud archiving choices, and immutability for compliance and ransomware protection, as follows:
  • Single file restore for agentless backups
Users can now restore specific files or directories from VMware and Microsoft Hyper-V agentless backups. VMware agentless backup features were also added for VDI and reliability.
  • vStor appliance and replication enhancements
Replication management was improved along with the ability to replicate encrypted volumes to the secondary Catalogic vStor appliances.
  • S3 Object Lock support to protect your backups
S3 Object Lock provides WORM storage (Write-Once-Read-Many), so once data is written, it cannot be modified or deleted, even by an administrator, protecting cloud backups against ransomware. DPX vStor now supports S3 Object Lock for all cloud storage targets that support it.
  • Backblaze B2 Support with S3 Object Lock
Backblaze provides low cost cloud object storage with low data egress fees for storing DPX backups. BlackBlaze B2 can be added as a cloud target to store DPX archive and NDMP backup data, including the ability to set S3 Object Lock modes.
  • Amazon S3 Glacier and Glacier Deep Archive support
Adds the ability to archive data directly to the Amazon S3 Glacier and Glacier Deep Archive storage. You can lower the cloud data protection costs by using these S3 storage tiers for the Amazon S3 targets from DPX vStor.
