Catalogic DPX protects virtual machines, file servers and NAS, and business-critical databases, drawing on more than 25 years in enterprise data protection. This brief summarizes DPX backup, recovery, ransomware detection, and storage capabilities on a single page.

Backup and fast recovery

Patented block-level backup cuts backup time and system impact by up to 90%. Agentless backup for VMware (VADP), Hyper-V, and Proxmox needs nothing installed inside each VM, and DPX also supports Nutanix AHV, Scale Computing, and OpenStack hypervisors. File servers and NAS are covered too, with native NDMP support. When you need data back, DPX offers several recovery paths:

Ransomware resilience with GuardMode

GuardMode detects ransomware-like behavior and flags suspicious or encrypted files, and it can scan a mounted restore point before you restore from it. Backup verification mounts VMware and block backups on vStor to confirm they are accessible ahead of time, while offline tape copies stay out of reach of network-based attacks.

Immutable storage and long-term retention

DPX vStor is a software-defined backup repository that you deploy as a virtual appliance or on your own servers, with no additional licensing cost. ZFS deduplication and compression reduce backup storage, and immutable snapshots carry deletion locks and MFA controls. For long-term retention, DPX archives block and agentless VMware backups to LTO tape or disk, and vStor can send them on to cloud object storage such as Amazon S3, Azure Blob Storage, Wasabi, or Backblaze B2.

Applications and reporting

DPX provides application-consistent backup and recovery for SQL Server, Oracle, and SAP HANA. With a supported third-party tool, you can also recover individual Exchange and SharePoint objects, as well as SQL Server tables, from any restore point. NetApp ONTAP integration writes blocks directly to NetApp storage without media or device servers, and built-in reports powered by Microsoft Power BI come at no extra cost.
