DPX use case

Cloud Integration

Cloud integration lets backup teams keep an off-site copy without building another data center. DPX archives protected data to cloud object storage while keeping recovery tied to the same DPX workflow.

Use cloud storage as a practical off-site copy

Cloud integration in DPX is designed for backup teams that need off-site retention without complicating daily operations. DPX archive jobs can send protected Block backup and VMware Agentless backup data to cloud storage, tape, or DiskDirectory. Supported cloud targets include AWS S3, Azure, Backblaze B2, Cloudian, DataCore, StorageGRID, Alibaba, MinIO, Scality RING, Wasabi, or a custom cloud. A base archive is created first, then later jobs can run as incremental or differential archives. That gives teams a way to move older protected data off site while preserving a managed recovery path.

Cloud integration with retention in mind

DPX cloud workflows are built around protected data, archive cycles, and recoverable copies:

  • Archive Block backup and VMware Agentless backup data to cloud object storage.
  • Run a base archive first, then incremental or differential jobs for later cycles.
  • Use cloud providers and S3-compatible targets that fit your cost, location, and retention policies.
  • Pair cloud copies with vStor-based backup repositories and object-lock-capable providers where appropriate.

Where cloud helps most

Cloud storage is most valuable when it is tied to clear recovery and retention goals.

Off-site resilience

Keep a copy outside the primary site so recovery options remain available if local storage is unavailable.

Longer retention

Move older recovery points to lower-cost cloud storage instead of keeping every copy on high-performance local disk.

Cyber resilience

Use supported cloud object-lock capabilities with providers such as Amazon S3, Backblaze B2, Wasabi, and Azure Blob.

Cloud integration questions

What DPX data can be archived to cloud?
DPX archive jobs support data protected with Block backup or VMware Agentless backup. Other backup types, such as File or Agentless Hyper-V, are not supported for these archive jobs.
Which cloud providers are supported?
DPX documentation lists cloud options including AWS S3, Azure, Backblaze B2, Cloudian, DataCore, StorageGRID, Alibaba, MinIO, Scality RING, Wasabi, and custom cloud targets. Provider fit depends on the backup type and feature required.
Does DPX support object lock?
The DPX compatibility guide lists Object Lock support for selected cloud storage, including Amazon S3 series, Backblaze B2, Wasabi Object Storage, and Microsoft Azure Blob Storage. Use this with immutable backup storage planning.
